Frequently asked questions

Everything you need before you book

Straight answers to the questions guests ask us most often. If anything is missing, call or WhatsApp us — a real person will reply.

Getting here and getting around

How far is Aakash from Ooty railway station and the bus stand?

We are about half a kilometre from Ooty railway station — the terminus of the Nilgiri Mountain Railway — and near the bus stand, so both are roughly a ten-minute walk. Charring Cross, Ooty's shopping centre, is a 15–20 minute walk.

How do we reach Ooty itself?

By rail, the Nilgiri Mountain Railway climbs from Mettupalayam — slow, scenic and worth planning around. By road, regular buses and taxis run from Coimbatore, Mysore and Bengaluru. The nearest airport is Coimbatore International, roughly three hours away by road.

Can you pick us up from the station or bus stand?

Yes — paid pick-up and drop can be arranged. Guests arriving on early morning buses have been received smoothly before; call or WhatsApp us with your arrival time and we will plan it.

How close are Ooty's main attractions?

Ooty Lake, its boathouses and Thunder World are about five minutes by car. The Botanical Gardens, Rose Garden and Charring Cross are all in town. Doddabetta Peak and Kamraj Sagar are short drives, while Avalanche Lake, Emerald Dam, Kalahatti Falls and Mudumalai make good day trips — our travel desk can plan any of them.

Is parking available?

Yes — parking at the hotel is free, and our staff will assist you on arrival. Space inside the premises is limited and the approach road is on a slope; ample parking is available on the main road, barely thirty feet away, under round-the-clock CCTV surveillance. Parking there is the standard practice for hotels in this part of town, and the road is broad.

Do you provide accommodation for drivers?

Yes — driver's accommodation is provided free of charge. The driver's meals are freshly prepared by our kitchen and charged separately.

Rooms and comfort

Which room category should we choose?

Standard rooms (150 sq ft) suit couples and small families, and Premium Standard rooms (100 sq ft) are small and cheery — ideal for individuals, couples or a family travelling with an infant; both are in our annexe block. In the Luxury category, Luxury rooms (193 sq ft) suit medium-sized families, the Luxury Suite (506 sq ft) adds a separate sit-out, and the Luxury Triple (480 sq ft) sleeps three adults and two children with a separate interior bedroom. Family rooms (180–300 sq ft) have two queen-size cots and an attached kitchen, and Premium Family rooms (260 sq ft) have two king-size cots and a 55-inch UHD smart TV — both suit larger families and groups. If in doubt, call or WhatsApp us with your group size and we will advise honestly.

Do you have rooms for large families or groups?

Yes — large families are our speciality. The Family Room, Premium Family Room and Luxury Triple Room are all designed for bigger groups, and several categories can be booked together for the largest gatherings.

Is hot water available round the clock?

Yes — every room is equipped with a geyser, with hot and cold running water and excellent water availability round the year. One thing worth knowing about Ooty’s cold climate: a geyser is never ready in 10–15 minutes here — it takes 30–45 minutes to heat fully once switched on. A placard beside the geyser switch in every room says the same, so do switch it on well ahead of your bath and plan accordingly; it will then serve you piping hot.

Do the rooms have heaters?

Yes — Ooty evenings are cold for much of the year, so room heaters are available on request for an additional charge. Just ask at the front desk.

Is Wi-Fi free?

Yes — free high-speed Wi-Fi is available in all rooms and in the living area.

We are travelling with elderly parents — can you help?

Tell us when you book and we will assign a ground-floor room wherever possible — guests travelling with elderly family members have found this helpful. The hotel sits on a hill road, so do mention any mobility concerns in advance and we will plan around them.

Are children welcome?

Very much so — children of all ages are welcome, and our family categories are sized so everyone fits comfortably in one room rather than relying on extra beds. Books, toys and board games are available on request, and the kitchen happily prepares milder food for children.

What is there to do in the evenings?

Rooms have televisions — several categories have 55-inch UHD smart TVs — and board games are available on request. The furnished balcony is a fine spot for evening tea, and the lake and Charring Cross are close by for a stroll.

Food

Do you serve food? Is there a restaurant?

Meals are served through in-room dining rather than a formal restaurant. Breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner are freshly prepared by our kitchen and brought to your room.

Is breakfast included in the room rate?

Meals are charged separately from the room rate, so you only pay for what you eat. Your rate and its inclusions are always shown clearly when you book.

Can meals be customised for children or dietary preferences?

Yes — our chef customises food to your preferences every day, including milder dishes for children. Tell us when you order, or in advance for anything special. Guests regularly mention the home-style South Indian breakfast; order it fresh in the morning.

Why does food sometimes take a little while?

Because everything is cooked fresh to order rather than held in a buffet. At busy hours please allow a little extra time — guests tell us the taste is worth the wait.

Can we bring outside food or order delivery?

Yes — guests are welcome to bring outside food, and food delivery services do reach the hotel.

Bookings and policies

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 1.00 pm and check-out is by 11.00 am. Early check-in or late check-out depends on availability on the day — please call ahead and we will do our best, as we have for guests arriving on early morning buses.

What do we need at check-in?

A valid government-issued photo ID for the guests checking in — a passport, Aadhaar, driving licence or similar.

What is the cancellation policy?

Cancellation terms depend on the rate you select and are shown clearly before you confirm your booking through our secure booking page. If your plans change, call or WhatsApp us and we will help.

Can you arrange sightseeing, taxis or tours?

Yes. Our travel desk arranges local sightseeing at reasonable rates, taxis and paid pick-up or drop, and can help you plan a ride on the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, shopping for local artefacts, horse riding or mountain cycling. Day visits to Mystique Estate, our family farm in the high Nilgiris, can also be arranged.

Is there medical help if we need it?

Yes — doctor-on-call assistance is available for peace of mind, and the front desk can help at any hour via the in-room intercom.

How do we book?

Book online through our secure booking page, or simply call or WhatsApp us on +91 63749 82384 — whichever you find easier. Availability and rates are always shown before you confirm.

Weather and packing

What is the weather like in Ooty?

Cool and changeable — that is the charm of a hill station at 2,240 metres. Days rarely pass the high twenties, nights can approach zero in winter, and sunny spells can be broken by sharp showers, especially in the monsoon months. Check a forecast close to your dates rather than relying on last year's pattern.

What should we pack?

Warm layers in every season — a jumper or jacket for evenings, and something rainproof between July and September. Room heaters are available on request if the cold catches you out.

When is the best time to visit?

March to June brings the Summer Festival and Flower Show; July to September is misty and green; October to February is crisp and clear. Ooty rewards every season — it depends on whether you want flowers, mist or frost.
